  1. Hi Sue Have just stumbled on your webpage. I am descended from a William Francis, born about 1756 in Mabe, through his daughter, Avis, who was also born in Mabe in about 1778. She had a brother John who was born about 1783 and another brother, William who was born about 1781. Avis married William Stockdale, was also a stonemason. Are we perhaps related??

    Best wishes,

    Tom Evans

    • Hi Tom,
I don’t have any further information about William Francis at this point in time to determine whether our Francis connections are related.
I would say that it is highly likely. given that Mabe was probably a small town back in the 1700s.

  2. Hello Sue and Tom, I have also stumbled upon this site. I am related to both of you through William Stockdale and his wife Avis Francis. They had a son John born in Mabe Cornwall in 1809 but there’s no trace of him after that. I believe he had a daughter Elizabeth about 1846/7. She goes to live with an aunt Anne Lakeman, née Stockdale who lived in Guernsey as the second wife of Thomas Lakeman (born Mevagissey) and ran a grocers ship in Victoria Road. Elizabeth’s marriage certificate says born Cornwall daughter of John but the rest is difficult to make out. She married Charles Pearce Gardner in 1877 (Pearces also from Mevagissey) and is my Great Great Grandmother. I live in Jersey. Any help re John would be much appreciated. I have a lot on both Stockdale and Francis trees. I know I’m related to them through DNA and to the Mormon Stockdale emigrants in Utah, Idaho and Colorado Springs. I just can’t find John’s whereabouts after Cornwall.
